Back at it! Summer training finished up with 3 weeks at El Colorado in Chile.
Since the camp was three weeks, we had room to play around with unorthodox training drills. My favourite was follow the leader – granted, it’s a little difficult when you’re following the 2010 Olympic Champion, Jasey Jay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9ATk9IdNN0.
Chile is a great place to go for summer training because 1) it’s Winter there! 2) the snow is firm and dry 3) they have killer sunsets
In all seriousness, the camp was a great environment to build consistency and break down techniques that could be overlooked otherwise.
On a typical day: we had two courses, 6 runs in the morning, 6 in the afternoon for a total of 24 runs in a course per day.
The biggest thing I gained from this camp was consistency in my heel side turns and recognizing when best to transition between the two to get the MAX SPEED. I worked a lot with hip movement and building up the courage to essentially throw myself down the hill.
For now, I am back in the gym preparing for fitness testing at the beginning of October. Stay tuned…
